2nd Grade-Wild Things Printmaking

The 2nd Grade students used Maurice Sendak's children's book, "Where The Wild Things Are" as inspiration for this project. After reading the story and creating a list of animal characteristics they observed in the Wild Things, students began to create their own. Students sketched four different Wild Things of their own and chose their favorite one for their final artwork. Once they made their selections, students learned about Printmaking. Each student made four color prints from the stamp they created. Once the prints were mounted, students used Construction Paper Crayons to write "Where The Wild Things Are" in their own style to connect it back to the book.

1st Grade-Jim Dine Hearts

The 1st Grade students created a Valentine's Day artwork based on the work of Cincinnati artist, Jim Dine. He is well known for his involvement in the Pop Art movement and created many works using "heart" imagery. We looked at some examples of his work and the students created their own colorful interpretations of the classic symbol of love using oil pastels and watercolors!
